Author Profile - Jill Atkins

Author of: Keeping Mum, Being Jack and Seeing Red (Reluctant Reader Teenage Fiction series), Cry, Baby, The Real Test and Aftershock (Shades 2.0 series), Magpie and The Witch’s Daughter (Breakouts series) and numerous titles in the Reading Stars, Reading Stars Plus and Neutron Stars series.

I began my working life as a Primary school teacher. Then, after a gap to produce and nurture a daughter and a son, during which time I worked part-time as a playgroup leader and home tuition tutor, I resumed my teaching career and became head of Infants.

I escaped from teaching a while ago and ran a bed & breakfast for several years. This is when I began writing in earnest, having enjoyed telling and writing stories since I was a child. I write fiction and non-fiction and I’ve had over 60 books published with a variety of publishers. My books range from phonics and early readers to teenage fiction.

A few years ago I completed the MA Writing for Children at Winchester University. I’m a governor in the local school. I live with my husband in West Sussex and love spending time with our children and five grandchildren.
