Author Profile - Fanie Viljoen

Author of: The Last Time I Died (Breakouts series), Jump (Reluctant Reader Teen Fiction), Scarred Lions and Mindf**k (Cutting Edge series).

Fanie Viljoen is a South African children’s book author, living in Bloemfontein, the city where J.R.R. Tolkien was born. He has written more than 35 books, publishing mainly in Afrikaans.

Many of his books have been awarded literary prizes, such as the Sanlam gold prize for youth literature, the M.E.R. prize for illustrated children’s books and numerous ATKV children’s book awards.

The Afrikaans version of his book Scarred Lions (Leeus met Letsels) was nominated for the IBBY Honour Roll List 2014.

Fanie spends his days writing, illustrating books and painting. He enjoys listening to music and going to the gym, but doesn’t like to get tired.
