Author Profile - Tish Farrell

Author of: Mau Mau Brother, Stone Robbers and Mantrap (Shades 2.0 series).

I began my writing career while living in East Africa. My first children’s books won 1st and 2nd prizes at the 1996 Zimbabwe International Book Fair, and a White Raven commendation from the International Youth Library. Since then I have written fiction for young people around the world. My non-fiction educational books have also received awards, including third place in the inaugural Society of Authors Educational Writers Award in 2008, and the winning of a Golden Duck Award for promoting children’s science fiction with my Write Your Own Science Fiction Story textbook.

My fiction is mostly set in contemporary East Africa. I want to tell stories that build bridges between people from different cultures, and show, that at heart, and wherever we live, we are often not so different. I also believe passionately that reading good stories opens minds, and unlocks future possibilities. I am thus very proud to be writing for Ransom’s Shades 2.0 series.

In earlier lives I studied Prehistory and Archaeology, and Social Anthropology, and worked in museum education. I now live in Shropshire with my scientist husband. When I’m not writing fiction, I blog, and tend my allotment where I grow masses of organic vegetables. I think it’s important to do what we can to take care of our planet, since it’s the only one we have.
